Your first visit, step by step
A first chiropractic visit should not feel confusing or rushed.
At Listro, we take the time to understand what brought you in, explain what we find, and walk you through the plan before treatment begins. Here’s what to expect from your first appointment.
Step 1 – Book Your Appointment
Book online or call us at 416-481-3378. Our front desk will confirm your appointment and send you intake paperwork in advance so you’re not filling out forms when you arrive.
Parking tip: Park in our free private lot directly behind the building at 111 Redpath Ave.
Step 2 – Your Initial Exam
Your first appointment is about understanding your situation fully before recommending anything.
We’ll go through your health history, your current symptoms, and what’s been working or not working. From there, your chiropractor will perform a thorough physical examination using our diagnostic technology to assess your spine, posture, and nervous system function.
You’ll leave your first visit with a clearer understanding of what may be contributing to your problem and what the next step is.
Step 3 – Report of Findings
At your second visit, your chiropractor will walk you through exactly what was found during your initial exam and what it means. You’ll receive a personalized care plan outlining the recommended course of treatment, what to expect, and how long it typically takes to see results.
There’s no pressure and no rush. We take the time to answer every question before treatment begins.
Step 4 – Your Ongoing Care
Once treatment begins, your plan will be tailored specifically to your body and your goals. This typically includes a combination of chiropractic adjustments, home exercises, and regular check-ins to track your progress. We adjust your care plan as you improve.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How long is the first visit? Plan for approximately 45–60 minutes for your initial exam.
- Do I need a referral? No. You can book directly without a physician referral.
- What should I bring? Your completed online intake forms, any relevant imaging such as X-rays or MRI, and comfortable clothing.
- Is chiropractic covered by insurance? Many extended health plans cover chiropractic care. We provide receipts for insurance submission.
- Is parking available? Yes. Free private parking is available in the lot directly behind our building.
Will the adjustment hurt? Most patients experience little to no discomfort during a chiropractic adjustment. Some people feel mild soreness in the treated area for a day or two afterward, similar to how muscles feel after exercise. Your chiropractor will always explain what they are doing before they do it and will work within your comfort level throughout the visit. - How many visits will I need? This depends on what we find during your initial exam and what your goals are. Some patients feel significant improvement within a few visits. Others with longer-standing conditions benefit from a structured care plan over several weeks. At your second visit, your chiropractor will walk you through a recommended plan with a clear timeline so you know what to expect.
- Do you direct bill insurance? We do not direct bill at this time. We provide detailed receipts after each visit that you can submit to your extended health plan for reimbursement. Most extended health plans that cover chiropractic and massage therapy will reimburse you directly. If you are unsure whether your plan covers chiropractic care, we recommend checking with your provider before your first visit.
- Can I see both Dr. Paul and Dr. Joe Listro? Yes. Both chiropractors practice at the clinic and patients are welcome to see either doctor. If you have a preference, simply let our front desk know when booking and we will do our best to accommodate you.
- Do you treat children and seniors? Yes. We treat patients of all ages. Dr. Paul and Dr. Joe both use gentle, low-force techniques when appropriate and will always tailor their approach to the patient in front of them.
- What conditions do you treat? We commonly treat neck pain, back pain, headaches, sciatica, postural strain, sports injuries, repetitive stress injuries, and pain related to prolonged sitting or desk work. If you are unsure whether chiropractic care is right for your situation, feel free to call us at 416-481-3378 and we can help you figure out the best next step.
- Is massage therapy available at the same clinic? Yes. Registered massage therapy is available at Listro Chiropractic & Massage Clinic and can be booked as a standalone service or as part of a combined care plan alongside chiropractic. Our registered massage therapist works with patients on muscle tension, recovery, and soft tissue care.
